A Good Idea

This practice has been Archived and is no longer maintained.

Description

Washington State Perinatal Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PPADV)'s project, "Improving Pregnancy Systems of Care for Asian Pacific Islander Women Experiencing Domestic Violence" is a demonstration project case study that identified key elements that must be addressed when initiating a system of care for pregnant and post partum women experiencing domestic violence. Using project findings, a technical assistance guide was developed and is being piloted with several community clinics in Washington State. The development and dissemination of a technical assistance guide for culturally relevant domestic violence screening and intervention in Washington state community clinics helps to develop and implement policy for domestic violence screening.

Goal / Mission

The goal of this project is to improve systems of care for Asian and Pacific Islander pregnant women who are experiencing domestic violence in order to address disparities in pregnancy outcomes in the Asian Pacific Islander Community.

Results / Accomplishments

The technical assistance guide can now be used by clinics to assess their screening and intervention protocols for domestic violence. The guide includes suggestions for establishing or improving screening and intervention strategies. 5000 -10,000 women are affected by this project every year.
