Why Murder?

A Good Idea

Description

Why Murder? was founded by Donnie Andrews, who found remorse, rehabilitation, and the desire to rebuild his community while serving 17 years in federal prison for murder. The program brings together families afflicted by homicide, both victims and perpetrators, to foster forgiveness, provide support, and strengthen inner city communities. Young people are helped with career and vocational training, positive recreational activities, and neighborhood reinvestment strategies.

Goal / Mission

Why Murder? works to reform and revitalize communities throughout Baltimore that are torn apart by homicides and the frequent administration of "street justice."

Results / Accomplishments

Why Murder? helps youth to tell their stories through film and music. In January 2012 the program co-hosted the fifth annual live reading of "Murder Ink", a weekly column in Baltimore's City Paper that lists and describes all homicides in Baltimore City, giving an identity to each victim.
